This happens to me frequently. I have found ways to work around it, by searching for the contact by a different way that would result in more contacts below them like searching by last name or by half of their first name. If contacts are below them, then it changes how much room there is at the bottom of the screen, but that is a very convoluted way of doing things. I agree it should be fixed.
